Spent a lovely day with K at Jackson Falls. Its about the closest place to find a waterfall near Spring Hill / Columbia TN. I have been trying to get in touch with nature lately. I think I feel less sad
when I spend time outside. Sometimes I get so tired that its hard to spend a
very long day outdoors. However, Jackson
falls is not hard to get to at all, and is very easy to walk too only about 900ft. I highly
suggest stopping there if you are ever driving down the Natchez Trace Parkway. The falls are located at mile marker 404.7. They allow dogs too and there is an overlook trail as well. The falls are two part and you can climb up some rocks to get to the upper fall which is where we took these photographs. K said in the summer sometimes kids will go down the waterfall like a slide. I have no idea how they did that because it seems like it would be dangerous and painful. I took a lot of photos with my instant camera. ^_^ . The whole place reminds me of a fairytale, I would love to go back and take some storybook style pictures. Overall it was a wonderful day and very peaceful. I tried to collect some acorns to commemorate the occasion, I teasingly told K I was going to keep them forever and ever so that I could show them to our great grandchildren, but their tops ended up falling off. This was to be expected, in fact I believe that Oktoberfest is Nashville’s biggest event. However, I was not expecting to be as overwhelmed as I was. But on the day I went only country music was blaring, and regular “fair” food served (funnel cakes, corn-dogs, curly fries etc.) and the same tents selling the same old stuff (candles jewelry, and the like) I will say I think I did see at least one place selling bratwurst, but that was about it.

I have been on a search for an all natural deodorant that actually works for a while now. Upon first using Soapwalla, I would have written a sterling review upon finding the holy grail of natural deodorant. However, this is no longer the case…

For the first month, using this deodorant was wonderful, it lasted the whole day with no smell whatsoever. In fact, I would say it worked better than the previous drugstore aluminum formula I had been using. Also despite as not being described as an “antiperspirant” I did notice that I was less sweaty, perhaps this is due to the natural clays in the formula. The fragrance is minty and fresh due to essential oils. I believe they have a citrus fragrance version as well.

Then after awhile, I started to burn a bit when I applied it, it did not last long. I thought at first it was due to the peppermint irritating freshly shaved skin. After awhile my armpits were bright red! I read other reviews, and I found I was not the only one with the redness, however, the other reviewers said that the redness dissipated in a few days after they “adjusted”, so I continued to use it.

This proved to be a bad decision, as it just got more erythematous and painful. Upon discontinuing, my underarms cleared up in a few days.

So what caused this to happen in the first place? The culprit, is the baking soda ingredient, which also so happens to be the same ingredient that causes this natural deodorant to work so much better than others. Baking soda causes the pH causes a more alkaline skin environment which inhibits bacterial growth. Well upon researching I found that the pH of the skin is delicately balanced, make the pH to alkaline and it allows more yeast to grow and also damage the skin (Causing the redness) However, this side effect does not happen in all individuals. So I can not completely discount this as a protect for everyone, I will use it still on days I wear things that are white to prevent staining but that's about it.

"It adds sexy, tousled waves and a light matte finish to any hair type. Infused with natural dead see salt and sea kelp this salon formula has you and your hair on the boardwalk all year long."

I like this product, can not say I love it, but its a good product overall. First of all, it will not give your hair curls, or waves really for that matter, if your hair is straight like mine. But, I did feel like it gave my hair an overall nice texture and slightly more volume. It also has a really lovely coconut smell to it which has to be my
favorite thing about it. The directions say to brush it through to apply it evenly, I've found that if I use a brush, any texture or waves I had totally go away, so I only finger brush when I have it in. I spray it in while my hair is damp, and spray a little more while my hair air dries. Also, I wish it sprayed a finer of a mist for more even application

The Verdict : Overall I like it and I use it semi-often, but I think I will only buy it again if its on sale, I think it would work way better on someone who has hair that is already a little bit wavy.
We were both rather artsy (ahem..goth) and into J-rock bands like Malice Mizer. One day she brought one of the GLBs to school, I was fascinated with it, I had never seen clothes like that before. Lolita clothing was much more unattainable then , as none of the

brands, except Metamorphose shipped over sees. On a trip to San Francisco, at a Kinokuniya Bookstore, I discovered they had them, I was so excited I picked up two issues! They came with posters which I of course had to hang on my walls. I used to draw designs of the dresses I saw in my sketch book, it definitely had a big impact on me. Even now, I’ve found I’m more drawn to old school designs. Two years or so later, I bought my first dress from Metamorphoses. The posters are down now, replaced by “grown up” framed art. The magazines are worn now, with pages falling out, seldom flipped through. But whenever I come across them I get filled with warm nostalgic feelings. ~~*```
Victoriangirldress is a Chinese run shop on ebay. Link
They sell petticoats in a rainbow spectrum of colors. Most of the petticoats are in kid sizes. My guess is they are probably child pageant petticoats. However, they have sizes that would fit adults XL(10-13) and XXL(14-16)

I am a waist 25/26 and I purchased the XXL , in white, which states to have measurements of 23.5-30.5. Shape: There seems to be some confusion on whether this is an A-line, or Cupcake / Bell shaped petticoat. The stock picture makes it look extremely A-line. But, It is in fact cupcake shaped, or perhaps slightly A line. The satin part is a little bit to long, if it was not there it would be even more bell shaped. Please note, the petticoat is a true white, I took these pictures at sunset so they all have a golden hue.

I have always admired JetJ’s painting dressing, but none of them were quite right to me… some were cut weird, some just had downright ugly paintings on them. However, Cecil Robe is absolute perfection!

Cecil Robe’s is based off of Waterhouse’s painting of a sleeping St Cecilia. ( Random Fact: Andrew Lloyd Weber, the creator of The Phantom of the Opera musical, purchased the painting for 6 million British pounds! Luckily, Cecil Robe isn't quite that much)

Pre-Raphaelite is my favorite art movement, I also think the bodice is super elegant, without being to over the top.
Juliette Justine's web store can be found here, where you can see more beautiful designs...that are all out of stock Lol

1.) Wear a chiffon blouse. There are some Jsks that can look nice without a blouse. But wearing a blouse, even when its hot, holds the benefit of protecting your dress from sweat (eww). Keeping dresses in good condition is important to many lolitas. Especially for those with "revolving closets" that tend to buy and sell their items alot. A chiffon blouse is light weight, and having extra coverage on your shoulders can help prevent a painful sunburn. Loliable chiffon blouses are also easy to find at many popular mainstream clothing shops.

2.) Carry a parasol. Parasols are fantastic. I bet every person writing on this week's topic will mention parasols. They are a feminine, frilly, and pretty accessory with a victorian flavor. They also come with the benefit of personalized shade.

3.) Short socks/ crew socks. For whatever reason, I always grew up calling these "bobby socks". Though I personally can't pull them off they can be use to create very cute coordinates.

4.) Go with natural hair. The wig may tempt you with its promise of beautifully, perfect, already styled hair. But it's appeal will quickly wear off when it becomes a nuisance that you can't take off while out and about.

5.) Be mindful and considerate if you are hosting a meetup. Pick indoor locations, like the movies, or a tea house. Some botantical gardens, zoos, parks ext will have events at dusk during the summer if you want to do something out doors.

6.) Go with lighter colors. This one from Angelic Pretty is a great example of a very cute summer time coordinate that incorporates many of the tips I've mentioned here.

7.) Keep hydrated! Here's a recipe for Disney Land's famous (non-alcoholic) mint julep. It is cool and refreshing, I always look forward to it when I go there :D

Eyelets , or Grommets, can be a practical and unique touch to many sewing and crafting projects. But sometimes they can be tricky to insert. After playing around with them a lot I found using the Sew-ology eyelet kit, is the best way to place them in fabric

(I also have a pair of pliers specifically for putting in grommets, but I do not recommend them. Although its seemly easy to use, I found that it was termpermental. If I did not apply pressure just right my eyelets would get dented. However, I found they are useful for poking holes in the fabric)

Step 1.) Make a small hole in the fabric

Step 2.) Make the hole bigger by pulling a pencil/ dowel stick through. A few corseting resources I read said cutting the hole is not recommended, as it will hurt the integrity of the eyelet, as time passes.

Step 3.) Put the side of the eyelet that has the longer post through the right side, so it sticks out on the wrong side

Step. 4.) Place the black part of the tool onto the eyelet to hold it in place

Step 5.) Place the other part of the eyelet on top of the post part. It has a jagged side also, make sure that side is facing down and not exposed on the wrong side.

Step 6.) Place the metal part of the tool so that it holds the eyelet in place.

Step 7.) Firmly tap on top of the metal tool a few times with a hammer, make sure this is performed on a hard, sturdy surface.

If you do this correctly, the teeth part should be evenly splayed out over the other part of the eyelet ring. These edges will not be present on the right side of the fabric.

So today I was very exited to wear my newest addition to my wardrobe: BTSSB Snow White JSK in black. It has been a dress I've been looking for a long time. At first I found it in pink, and then literally the next day it showed up in black. Talk about buyer remorse. I need to sell the pink as its strange to have two of the same dress, I'd rather have variety! It's an older print, with a gorgeous rendering of the story of Snow White. I think I like older prints more than new prints. They have such a nostalgic feel, and remind me of when I was first getting into this fashion years ago.~*

The dress is very versatile and can be dressed up or down. Today I chose to make an otome styled coordinate, for the meetup I was supposed to go to today. Unfortunately, it was canceled because of the rain. But I still put on my frills and had a meetup of one.

I went with simple hair and makeup today. Currently, I'm on the search for apple themed items to go along with this dress, instead I had to settle for my Cinderella's carriage necklace. The blouse is chiffon and perfect for summer, grab one at F21 while its still available as its a great, cheap wardrobe builder for your Lolita ensembles.

One can not really don their lolita frills at the beach or the pool. But what's a girl to do when she wants to keep her frilly aesthetic on her sea faring adventures?

1.) Go Retro! There are a lot of great vintage inspired options out there. The one thing that I dont like about the retro bathing suit trend is the high waisted bottoms. They look like granny pannies, and are rather unflattering.

Instead go with something with a bustier top like this from sea folly , and pair it with a modern bottom. And for those that want a one-piece, this one from shabby apple is adorable with it's lovely pink accent bow.

2.) Make Your Own! Go on Etsy or wherever you source your patterns, and try to snag one of these beauties McCalls 5906 , or Simplicity 1604. The silhouette is very ballerina like, you'll be the only girl on the beach with it!

3.) Stick with Brand. Both Baby the Stars Shine Bright and Metamorphose have released bathing suits, but they may be difficult to find! Hopefully they will release new versions this season.

*~So what sort of bathing suit have you gotten for this summer? ^_^

So I was looking through some old pictures on my phone and found these photos from last year from an outing . We went to the Cheek Wood botanical gardens which is a really cool place if you ever go to Tennessee. I never posted them to daily lolita over all the rules they broke, but I think they are perfect for this weeks theme on EGL.
People who know me well know that I am a huge Lord of the Rings dork. XD I was super exited about the Hobbit coming out that I wanted to make costumes for my brother and I. Unfortunately all I was able to make was a Hobbit style vest for my brother.

I used the Simplicity 2346 for the pattern. I'm not sure what type of fabric it is, but it feels similar to suede cloth. The color is a wonderful deep green in real life. I also picked out very "hobbity" leaf buttons.

This is a lined, fitted, and modern styled vest. I made the size 36. The sizing was great and more accurate than simplicity patterns for women. The vest came out just like the photo (aside from the lame appliques that is!)

The instructions, I did not like however. They were overly complicated and confusing. This troubles me as its a "learn to sew pattern" I definitely would not recommend this pattern to teach beginners. I ended up just cutting out the pattern pieces and sewing it my own way.

I would use the pattern pieces for this again if my brother ever desires another vest.

For the button holes, I finally figured out how to use my vintage button holer attachment.
Overall this was a fun and quick project to sew!
One of my favorite make up brands is Too Faced, I'm just a total sucker for their princessy packaging. I have been wanting to try out their BB cream collection but the Vanilla Glow has always been to dark for me. Luckily, last time at Sephora I picked it up in Snow Glow :D

In all honesty, it's still a tad bit too dark, but I figure since summer is coming I will probably get a little tanner. ( or maybe not since this BB cream contains a 20 SPF) My favorite thing about this BB cream is the little tiny gold sparkles! This gives your skin a soft luminous look.

The consistency is great and it blends very well. A little bit of product is enough for your whole face. Though, it does not have fantastic coverage like its Asian counterparts. I find that a lot of my scaring and freckles are still present, but diminished. A benefit to this though is that it has a very lightweight feeling.

Also this bb cream does need to be set with powder, if you want a matte look, and my skin does tend to look a little greasy after a few hours. But, it has not broken me out or irritated my sensitive skin.

Overall, I love it and its my current go to BB cream!

This year I decided I wanted to dress up for the Tennessee Renaissance Festival ( more info click here )
I have dressed up before with a borrowed outfit and decided I wanted my own. But Renaissance festival outfits are crazy expensive. I just can't justify spending 300$ on something Im only going to wear it once a year, if that.
Luckily I hoard costume patterns! :D I decided to use Simplicity 3809 from my stash. I have never made a renaissance bodice before so I wanted one that was pretty, but simple.
I made the hand maidens version of the bodice and blouse.
Blouse:

Pattern Description:
A costume, loose fitting, peasant blouse. With elastic at the neckline and sleeves.
Pattern Sizing
(4-8) I made the size 8. Honestly though, the blouse is so loose fitting that I dont think it really matters which size you make as you can adjust the elastic to whats comfortable for you.
Did It look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope
Yes, but I omitted the lace on the sleeves and neckline.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
Yes, I found them quite easy to understand, though I did change some small things, I think a beginner could easily make this blouse.
Fabric Used:
An ultra sheer synthetic chiffon
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern
I liked how easy it was to make, especially the use of bias tape for the casing of the elastic. I wish that the blouse front neckline was lower however.

Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made

Well I actually posted on the forums about this question I had. I was worried about which color of bias tape to choose, thinking it would show through. What I really should have been worried about was the elastic color! After sewing the white of the elastic was very apparent . This would not be a problem if you were sewing a white blouse like the pattern. but my fabric was dark blue. I removed the elastic and dyed it with Rit liquid Dye. Dying the elastic was surprisingly easy. I just submerged the elastic for an hour in a small bowl of super hot water/dye mixture. I think it looks a
lot more professional with the dyed elastic.

Pattern Description:
A lined, boned, fitted, Renaissance style bodice with lace up front.
Pattern Sizing:
(4-6) I made the size 8. I found that the pattern was to big, especially considering it is supposed to have a gap in the front. I had to take each side in over an inch.
Did it look like the drawing on the pattern envelope
For the most part yes.
Were the instructions easy to follow?
NO!! I found them extremely confusing and nearly ruined the bodice. In the end I didn't use the directions at all.
Fabric use:
A thick woven upholstery material. It is absolutely beautiful in real life and is slightly shimmery/metallic in areas.
What Did you particularly like/ dislike about this pattern
How they explain the vest backing/lining is confusing.
Another thing that really irked me, is that on the notion side on the back it simply states "8 grommets" with out specifying the size. The pattern picture is to small to see what size they used. I ended up buying "grommets" that were way to big. Eyelets are better suited for this and are what I used.
Pattern Alterations/ Design Changes you made
Instead of doing 3 layers: fabric, vest backing, and lining. I sewed broadcloth to my fashion fabric and put bias tape, flipped it and sewed in down to the other side to finish the edges. I think this looks nice and is a lot easier than how the pattern explains. You would need 3 layers howerver if you were using thinner fabric for your outside. I also rounds the edges by the neckline instead of having them square.
Would you sew it again/Recommend it to others
No, I would not recommend it. I would maybe sew my version again however.

PS: I made a tutorial on how to easily insert eyelets
Sakura micron pens are great but they don't last very long. Technical drafting pens are refillible and can get the thinnest line possible. Though CAD has mostly replaced these pens for drafting, they still have a place in the art world. But there are importants things about these pens I wish I had known before using them. I use the brand Koh I Noor, but there are other brands such as the Staedtler Marsmatic. In the picture, to the left is the ink reservoir, mine has ink in it so it is not clear. The yellow band has the threads that twist it into the the pen. Do not disassemble the pen except for the reservoir, as it can lead the pen to leak. Shaking the pen also leads to leaks.

If you drop it, then pens will break and be useless. These pens write with a thin filimant wire, if it breaks off/ gets bent the pen will know longer write.

The smaller the tip of the pen, the easier it will break. DO NOT use the small ones on textured paper, for instance, watercolor paper. Lint from the paper will get into the tip and break it.

make sure you have pen cleaner such as rapidoease. Dip the pen tip in between drawing sessions to prevent it from clogging. And completely clean with it when you are done using the pens for awhile.

If the pens have dried ink, submerge them in the solution. Then rinse with water. For really clogged pens fill the ink reservoir with the cleaning solution and let it sit so it can clean out the pen from the inside.

Koh i noor make a special bulb for cleaning but I have not purchased one, as they are expensive.

Here's a piece of mine done using these pens. Feel free to ask any questions about these pens ^_^
One can purchase these pens from the above link, ebay, or online art stores. Some physical art stores sell these pens, but look online first to make sure they are selling them for a fair price.

My friend and I went to a local Lolita meetup here in TN. It was my friends first meetup I think we all officially converted her :3
Here's my outfit! I must say French cafe is really cool it even has pockets! I think blue was by far the best colorway in this series
I'm so sad I had to sell it, for spending money in France, ironic huh? ;(
The party itself was really fun! The hostesses Alexandra and Rebecca ( I think) were so kind and really tried to make sure everyone was welcome. Which included favor bags! Just a note to everyone favor bags= automatic awesome meetup.

Marley and Me

The Historical Society of Downtown Franklin puts on this Charles Dickens inspired festival every year. It is SO much fun! There are vendors selling delicious traditional sweets. Such as sugar plums and old fashion doughnuts, (which were heavenly) There were also reenactors who played characters from classics such as "A Christmas Carol," and "Oliver Twist". I am pictured here with Scrooge's business partner Marley. Even though I was not a hired character people asked me if I was, people asked for my picture and I was in the newspaper. I was so flattered!
Here are some of the real reenacters doing a traditional dance in the square
Been awhile since I posted. Since my last fashion forecast was a moderate success, my next one is....Fawn Fur. I really love fawn fur. Sometimes other furs like zebra, or wild cat prints can be seen as a little old fashioned or tacky. Fawn fur on the other hand, gives a soft impression. Like the type of fur a girl in a story book would wear. Best of all to animal lovers, pretty much all fawn fur in fashion is synthetic.
Besides just fur, fawn as well as deer everything is gaining popularity in street fashions. Even down to antler like hair!

I think we may start seeing it in the mainstream over time. In fact I'm surprised its not popular already, because just look at how cute these little Bambi like fawns are!

In coordinating for your lolita outfits, lace gloves can be a lovely addition. Especially for a classic or Victorian inspired outfit. They give a touch of sophistication, and a nostalgic impression of times when ladies wore gloves to keep their precious hands soft and clean. Victorian Maiden has a pair of gloves I've been lusting over. They have been in all of their ads and for good reason, they're beautiful!

Lace gloves can be procured in many other places though. They are gaining popularity among the main brands, even angelic pretty has come out with some cute lace gloves. Crocheted gloves are also beautiful, and would be lovely to make for those who have that talent. One could also go thrift shopping, or to craft sites like Etsy.com to find some at a bargain price! These look almost identical to Victorian Maiden's and are less pricey.
I have a nice pair of vintage gloves from my great grandmother, and I can't wait to wear them <3

Though when choosing lace gloves, it would probably be best to avoid those that are long and fingerless. Unless of course, you want to look "like a virgin" (and by that I mean 80s Madonna)
But it seems to me there trying to think a little to outside the box, with the new Twilight Circus. I really dislike it....Of course this is coming from someone who hated Vampire Requiem, and views it as an extremely overrated homage to Tuxedo Mask.

Cannot Unsee Can You?

Post traumatic stress Baton twirling incident memories are flooding back aren't they?

The top and the bottom clash to much, it looks to much like separates. I know some people like dichotomy in fashion but this is reading wayyyy to weird shirley temple baton twirler. That and the skirt is really tacky. It looks like depressing, vintage wallpaper. The kind that kept little 1950's children up scared at night.

The accessories, and blouse are just as awful. Especially the top, I hate asymmetrical ties.
Today I'm reviewing a malco modes 580 petticoat, as well as the company I bought it from Promenade Dance Shop.

The petticoat itself feels wonderful. Light and fluffy like sitting on a marshmallow! I bought the small, as I wanted a longer petticoat. If you would like a more cupcake/traditional Lolita shape I would go with the petite which is shorter. The petticoat I bought was 21 inches long.

Pros:

Chiffon petticoats are more likely to stay poofy.

The material is soft and not scratchy like tulle can be

I like how there is a pretty lace hem, I can have it peak out on longer dresses.

Cons:

The 580 is not as poofy as I thought it would be, I kinda wished I had gotten the poofier model

The chiffon really shifts around the waist band. It gets caught between my legs and makes me feel like a man : /

As far as promenade dance shop goes link my experience was meh. It took MONTHS for my petti to come. When I contacted the owner she said they were waiting to have the petti in stock. She was kind, and offered me a refund. But I'm patient and decided to wait. Personally though, I really think promenade shop should have listed the item as out of stock. Its not really fair to those purchasing who have no idea how long they may have to wait for there item.

If you have any questions about this petti, feel free to ask in the comments and I will answer you :)
Here is a picture of me in the petti from this post :
Around a month ago I received the Dolly Wink No. 1 fake lash with my contact lens shipments from Honeycolor. I had never worn fake lashes before, and these looked super cute! Which is a given because they are designed by model Tsubasa Masuwaka.

At first I really didn't like them. But later I read that these lashes were made extra long because sometimes gyaru like extra long lashes. Which is good apparently cuz you dont have to add extra length to your fake lash. But for me, my eyes are smaller so I cut some off. Also theres an annoying piece of plastic near the end of the lash that goes near the corner of your eye. I cut that off too. And they were much more comfortable to wear.
