Monterey Bay Aquarium

It seems like I haven't blogged in forever...I've been busy/lazy. Anyway I've been meaning to blog about my awesome California trip! I had so much fun. One of things I did was visit the Monterey Aquarium. The drive there was through the mountain and very picturesque and beautiful, reminded me of a french film. It was a little dreary though.

When we got there it was pouring, and we had to run blocks to actually get to the aquarium, we were soaked. The sea was quite tumultuous and gray, I had never seen it like that before.

I sort of wish there had been more at the aquarium, especially larger sea animals. Maybe they had them but were off exhibit or we skipped them...hmmm...they did have lots of other cool fish though!
They also had an exhibit with rescued water fowl, I found that very cool. You could get extremely close to the birds and they weren't scared at all.
Alot of the exhibits were other things you wouldn't expect like sea anemones, sand dollars, ext.
Its Pink!!!!!!
I also got a new ~fancy~ camera, but didn't figure it out until the jellyfish, so here are a bunch of pretty jellyfish lol.

We ate at lots of cool places, but I only have one food shot. It was a yummy shrimp tempura udon bowl. It was huge! Could have fed 3 people. The noodles were thick and very tasty. Everyone else thought there food was delicious as well.

I also went to a baby shower, I would like to post more pictures, but I haven't asked permission and don't want to put peoples photos on the public Internet. So here is one of me eating the baby shower cake. I am wearing my most favorite sweater! Its very alpine/Nordic, my mama bought it for me from abercrombie :3

Ok bye! I will blog more I promise~***

Beach Party Top & Dress Pattern Review

I know this adorable little toddler, and I really wanted to make her a cute little dress for the upcoming summer. While browsing the web I found a really cool free pattern from.
http://fiddlehead.blogspot.com/2009/06/finally-let-beach-parties-begin.html
you can click to make bigger!
Review:

Pattern Description:
"This little top and dress were designed with staying cool in mind. My little fiddlehead has to survive the heat
of the Louisiana summer, and our only respite is a trip to the beach for Independence Day. I put together a
few of these little ditties to help her enjoy the outdoors all summer, regardless of the heat!"- from fiddlehead.blogspot.com
Pattern Sizing:
from 12month to 6t, I made the 5t. It is important to note that the pattern is cut a little small. I would go up a size for whatever you want to make.
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?
Yes it was very similar to the photos the creator supplied
Were the instructions easy to follow?
The instructions are very, very detailed, but there are no pictures to go along with it. So if you don't know all the sewing terminology/ are a visual person you may have problems.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?
The pattern was great, the only thing I would have changed would be to have bigger strips of bias strips for the casing.
Fabric Used:
I used a really interesting fabric called "tutti frutti" I had seen it alot, and liked it because it had an interesting texture. But when I steam ironed it the texture went away! I wish I could remember the exact kind of fabric it was to read up on it because I found it a little odd.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:
instead of top stitching the front curved edges of the bodice, I understitiched. I think it looks crisper this way. But I do see how if contrasting thread was used for the top stitching it would be cool. I sort of wished I had lengthened it.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?
I actually might make another one of these for a different little girl! I would totally recommend it.
Conclusion:
Really fun easy breezy dress to make, and how can you lose the pattern is free!!!!
This was the first time I've made my own bias tape. Even though I'm proud of it, I will probably purchase my own bias tape next time haha.
I finished up the seams with a zigzag stitch, and folded up the hem
~Bye! Until my next project~

The poof comb is a scam! Review

Ok I've been wanting to write my poof comb review for a while. Its just unfortunate that I have no poofcomb to write about! In November I ordered  the poof comb. It could be ordered online or by phone. I bought it online since I don't like giving credit card numbers over the phone.
To clarify it is this product:

(Note to self dont ever buy as seen on tv products ever again, I just can't believe I was suckered into it)
It said It would take up to 14 days to be sent to me. 14 days went by still no comb, so I used the "check my order status on the site." It said my order was received and it would take 14 days. I thought ok maybe they just have to many orders, its understandable.
More days went by...

Then when I used the track my order status all I got was the 401 "this page does not exist" This really worried me.  I could no longer track my order. But still, I gave them the benefit of the doubt.
Then the site magically worked again, but instead to 14 days it said something on the lines of "we are sorry we have had such a large volume of orders, that you are on back order. We are sorry any inconvenience."
Well this irked me but I will be patient.(since over a month had passed already)

Then something quite worrisome. The card company sent me a paper saying that my credit card was compromised and I needed a new number. Ironically, a few days later I received a letter from poof comb, saying they would send my order.
Hmmm strange isn't it?
Then a few days later, I received another letter hounding me for money....though I had already paid online for it! Said they wouldn't send it to me until I payed -_-
I still get letters from them!

Another reason I think it is a scam is that to this date, I haven't heard of any one receiving their poof comb, or seen/read any reviews. I highly doubt that even if I had paid them again, I would have the product.
So yes I would say the poof comb is a scam do not buy the poof comb!!!!

Also if poofcomb company reads this, explains why this happened, they can send me what I bought or contact me at alpineheidi@hotmail.com and I will do a proper review and forgive then. But until then, yes poofcomb.com is a scam do not buy it! Unless of course you like to order things you never recieve.

And one more thing, they say its 10 dollars. +shipping. Its not, they also charge like a 7 dollar processing fee. They also try to sucker you in to getting the "deluxe comb". I didn't even get the "extra" comb set and my 10 dollar product cost over 20! Had I gotten the extra comb it would have been almost 40! and if I had gotten the deluxe comb even more expensive!

UPDATE it seems that poof comb is astroturfing online. Under someone named steve/steph H
who uses poor grammar. These are screencaps from my computer so that poof comb will not delete their puppet answers. They will get big if you click on them. I actually posted on yahoo is the poof comb a scam, ironically it was "flagged" though it did not break any of the rules. This means I cant show it since I did not think at the time to screen cap it :(
I also found it odd that Steph henry asks where to get the product, orders it from the website but later says she called them?
